A Moment With

President Finisecy

We have so much to tell you! The NAO Board of Directors (specifically the Education Committee chaired by Thomas Zizka) has been very busy developing new educational programs that we're sure will be of great interest to you!

Advanced Certification Exam Review Course & Book

Three of our profession's highly respected educational leaders have completed their work on the Advanced Certification Exam Review Course.

Diane Drake, William Underwood and Michael DiSanto have developed a full two-day (16 ABO & Florida Credit Hours) course. To accompany the course is a nine-chapter book complete with end-of-chapter questions and answers that can also stand alone as an useful tool to prepare for ABO's Advanced Certification Exam.

The Course will premier at Vision Expo West on September 16 & 17 in Las Vegas and again in Orlando on October 22 & 23 ) The book can be ordered separately.

In Closing, a Word of Appreciation

As you know, NAO's new membership year started on June 1 through May 31, 2006. NAO'S staff have just completed invoicing and processing your dues renewals.

We want to sincerely thank you for continuing to support your profession through your NAO membership. We're so glad that you share our sense that providing and partaking in quality education is a top priority in giving our patients the very best available in vision care.

You obviously value your NAO membership for a good number of reasons; may we suggest that you share your enthusiasm for the NAO by encouraging your colleagues to also investigate the many benefits of membership. The NAO Staff is happy to speak with them at 800-229-4828.

The Retail Manager's Guide to Crime &

Loss Prevention (#LossPrev) by Liz Martinez with Foreword by Robert P. Woerner, Lt., NYPD (Ret.)

One of the most frequently overlooked retail management responsibilities is security. Often, it is tempting to conclude that security is "someone else's" job: the police, mall security, in-store loss-prevention officers and so on. But as an owner or manager, retail crime directly affects you by decreasing your store's bottom line profits, thus cutting into your -- and your employees' -- salaries and bonuses. Criminal activity that occurs in your store carries hidden costs that take money out of everyone's pockets. So.... everybody from the most senior manager to the newest part-time employee has a stake in security as well as a responsibility to protect profits by thwarting store crime.
