Preventing Medical Errors in the Optical Environment

This course will identify medical errors in the optical environment, an understanding of how they happen and what they can cause, as well as introduce ways to prevent them. Included in the discussion will be terms including failure mode and effects analysis; root cause analysis and assessment; as well as identification, documentation, implementation of remedial process, and communication.

This course will provide an update of the latest wearable technology eyewear. As wearable technology becomes more prevalent, eye care professionals need to understand the devices capabilities and impact on their visual needs. In some cases, the technology is worn with prescription lenses. The optics of these lenses requires modifications to optimize viewing with the devices. The course will include tips for measuring and fitting prescription lenses worn with the devices.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Digital Measuring Devices

New Opticians learning on the job, participating in a formal apprenticeship program or attending a degree program all need guided hands-on experience in the workplace. This course will provide an overview of a new Mentoring the Mentor program to support mentoring in several competency areas.

Corneal assessment and measurements are needed to plan refractive surgery, fit contact lenses and detect pathology. This course will review the progression of devices and methods used to measure and assess the cornea. Instrument operation and interpretation of findings will be presented.
